Late last year I put pen to paper on my first “Commercial” contract as a Builder. All went well with my client except for the blank look on my face when they requested my Work Health and Safety system.

Over the years as a Bricklaying sub-contractor I’ve never really come across too much to do with the safety aspect of Building sites. Most clients seem to turn a blind eye to what you are doing, so long as the bricks are going into the wall.

Progressing into a General Builder over my 25 years in this sector and no real experience in dealing with Health and Safety you could imagine the sinking feeling that came over me when I was asked to present my Work Health and Safety system!
